Frequently asked van hire questions

We want to make hiring a van from us as easy as possible. If you’ve got a question about any part of the process, take a look and see if we’ve answered them already. If not, feel free to get in touch on 020 7916 6616.

How old do I need to be to hire a van?

All van drivers must be between 21 and 70 years of age, and there is no extra charge for being under 25. If you’re looking to hire a minibus you must be over the age of 25.

What kind of driving licence do I need?

To rent any of our vehicles we require that you present a valid UK or EU driving licence that you’ve held for at least two years. You cannot have any major driving offences or disqualifications in the previous four years.

What documentation do you require?

In addition to your driving licence, please be willing to provide a licence check code, a recent proof of address like a utility bill, bank statement, or tenancy agreement, and a valid Mastercard or Visa card.

Do you charge a deposit?

We ask for a deposit of £100 when you begin your hire. This is a preauthorised deposit, so no money will leave your account unless it is necessary at the end of your hire.

Are your vans covered by insurance?

We provide you with comprehensive insurance cover for the duration of your hire. When you rent from us you are liable for the first £1000 of any cost for damages. This can be reduced to £500 with a collision damage waiver for all our vehicles.

How do you take payment?

The deposit and charge for your van hire are required in full before you begin your hire with us. We also require 2 working days’ notice if you are cancelling a prepaid booking, and 5 days’ notice for a Luton van, minibus, or crew van booking, or you may be charged fees.

Can I return my van out of hours?

Provided it is still within your hire period, you can return your vehicle at any time that is convenient to you, even when the office isn’t open, at no charge. Please note that you are still responsible for the vehicle until the next working day when you return it out of hours.

When is the latest I can collect a van?

If you’ve hired a van online or over the phone, the latest you can arrive to collect it is 17.15 on a weekday and 11.45 on Saturdays.

When can I pick up my van for weekend hire?

If you’re hiring your van over the weekend, you can collect your vehicle between 08.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon on Saturday. At the end of your hire period, you can return it at any time convenient to you using our out of hours return facility.

How much is the mileage allowance?

Your hire charge entitles you to a 150 mile per day initial allowance, meaning a two-day hire gives you a 300-mile allowance, three days is a 450-mile allowance, and so on. Every mile driven above the allowance incurs a cost of 10p per mile.

How much fuel do I need to put in my van?

It is the responsibility of the hirer to sufficiently fuel the vehicle as required and return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as the start of the hire. Any additional fuel in the tank at the end of the hire will not be credited.

Who can drive my rental van?

Only the hirer and drivers approved at the time of hire may drive the vehicle. We don’t impose any charge for additional drivers.

Can I take my van outside the UK?

You may take your van to Europe if you specifically organise it with us, giving at least 24 hours’ notice. If you have not arranged this with us, then you may not take the hired vehicle outside the UK mainland.

Can I transport food in my rental van?

We offer modern refrigerated vans. You can set the temperature as low as 0°C to keep food and drink cold and safe to cook and consume. Just ask when you get in touch, and we’d be happy to arrange a refrigerated van for you.
